Announcing…The Holiday Couture Sessions! {Dallas Fort Worth Family and Children’s Photographer}

With fall just around the corner, I’m so excited to announce my first ever holiday card promotion.  And not just any promotion…Holiday Couture Sessions!  I love Christmas, and I LOVE fashion – so I really wanted to marry the two and come up with a creative and fun promotion for my clients.  Each session is customized and there are so many options not shown here.  I have lots of fun ideas so give me a shout if you’re interested in booking!

Katy – Class of 2011 {Dallas Fort Worth Senior Photographer}

One thing I’m trying to get more into is senior photography, particularly girls.  I know I know – I do enjoy photographing guys but let’s be honest, with girls we typically do several fabulous wardrobe changes and I can gab with them and be sassy with them, and… well… it’s just plain fun.   I absolutely love this age group and hope to see God grow my business in this area over the coming year.

Miss Katy is such a sweet soul with a great sense of style. And, clearly, she’s GORGEOUS!  One thing I offer my senior clients is a wardrobe consultation with their session and it was fun to go through Katy’s closet and accessories pulling together fun looks.  She definitely didn’t need much help.  I love this part of my job so much and it’s rewarding to see the whole package come together after discussing clothing and locations.   We decided to do a mix of studio and location shots and had the best time.

Thank you so much Katy and Melissa.  I hope you enjoy these favorites.  And Katy, may your senior year be blessed!  I know you’ll go very far, girl!

This was the very end of the shoot – it was hot, we were tired but her sweet spirit shone through!  Couldn’t help but post some “outtakes”.  These just scream “I’m a SENIOR!” to me.:)

Are Digital Files Included With My Baby Photography Session?

Originally posted on BabyPhotographers.com blog-

I love this article by Lauri Baker, a St. Louis photographer.  I hope it will shed some light on this sensitive subject.  Fyi, my digital files are available for sale and are included in some of the packages.  I do not include them with a session.

—————————-

Surely you’ve noticed an increase in the number of photographers giving away digital files. As a customer, should you expect them to be for sale? Why don’t all photographers include them in the session fee for free, or at least make them affordable? Don’t the files belong to you anyway?

Federal copyright law is very clear about image ownership. They belong to your photographer, who has the sole right to print, display, and sell them.

You should expect the price of digital files, if available, to compensate your photographer for their work and talent. Baby photographers don’t always sell a large package up front like wedding photographers. Instead, most charge a session fee that just covers some costs of providing the shoot. We rely on print sales as our sole source of income. The digital images are the key to those print sales. This is good for you. It means I have to do a good job for you, or I won’t get paid.

While many photographers do offer the files for sale, many baby photographers who specialize in creating custom art don’t.  For them, it’s a matter of quality control from start to finish. They realize cutting corners on that is a disservice to their clients.

Almost all of the file inquiries I get stem from an attempt to get my work for cheap… to get my vision, but to skip out on buying prints from me. Or from a misconception that digital is cheaper to produce than film. It’s not.

The equipment is much more expensive, replacements are necessary more often, and the workflow, maintenance, troubleshooting, and constant education requirements make digital much more expensive.

Even at that, the real value of digital files comes not from the cost, but what the files contain: the work and artistry that prompted you to choose that photographer. If you purchase files, expect to pay a price that values the work, and is sustainable for the photographer. You want him or her to still be in business when your new baby starts sitting up. Or walking. Or when your family grows.

If you’re looking for cheap portraits, and you don’t care about prints or a long-term photographer, cheap photography is available in abundance on places like Craigslist. You can have a session and all the files for very little money.  But for custom baby photography, the most important things to look for are artistry, image quality, experience with babies, safety, and service. Choose wisely – baby portraits are precious memories and family heirlooms.

Janene - Absolutely, perfectly said!! We all get this question, along with “why don’t you? Other photographers do . . .” Herein lies the problem. Soooo many new photographers out there are offering digital images (this seems to be what people want now), that I end up unable to compete, simply because THEY WANT DIGITAL IMAGES. Period.

Heather Thorne - I know. It’s very much a digital world now what with Facebook, blogs, people making their own digital albums online, etc. It’s very tricky. I don’t mind offering the images on cd BUT there is a price tag. And it’s not cheap. Nor should it be for custom photography. Thanks for your comment!

The “S” Siblings {Dallas Fort Worth Children’s Photographer}

I’ve loved every shoot I’ve had with these gorgeous siblings!  This was the first time we did a studio shoot with them and we just wanted to let them play and be kids.  It was so rewarding to watch mom’s face beaming at her children and enjoying the shoot.    “S” family, thank you thank you thank you for your loyalty and PATIENCE!!  :)   So appreciate you!

By the way, you’ll see these cuties again in my Christmas card promo being announced next week!

Oh yes, I’m on a teaser roll!  Can’t wait to post more of these sweet brothers and their parents.  Here are a few I couldn’t resist posting but after a four hour shoot and clothing changes, it’s going to be hard to narrow down for their full blog post next week!

I was wondering if you could email me your pricing per session, and for digital files and prints. I am interested in possibly booking a maternity session and a newborn session in the future.

Thanks,
