Fun Friday Post – {A branding contest, fun retreat and I’ve been published!}

I’m working away on some fashion images and thought I’d post a few fun things in the meantime.

First, if you haven’t signed up for the contest for new branding over at the Totally Rad Actions blog, do so now!  My friend Jane Johnson of Custom Photography Blogs just finished re-branding me {note: my blog isn’t redone yet and I have two new websites launching. Can’t wait to show you!!!) and she’s giving away a custom splash page and new logo!! Here is a little before/after of my logos.  Thanks again, Jane.  You rock!

Second, if you are a child photographer (or shoot high school seniors) you MUST check out the NAPCP- National Association of Professional Child Photographers and their first retreat being held this June in Napa.  I’m so excited to go!! Here is a fun promo video about the event.  I can’t believe I was that peppy at 7:30 a.m.  Enjoy!!

Lastly, I’ve been so blessed to get the cover of Mansfield Magazine’s spring issue!  Special thanks to Lisa Drake and Mansfield Magazine for this opportunity!  Here it is…

A Beautiful Birth + Lorelei’s First Photos! {Dallas Fort Worth Newborn Photographer}

I recently photographed my first birth and all I can say is “wow!”  What a miracle to witness God’s beauty in the birth of a child.  I’d never thought about photographing births and when I was asked to, I really didn’t hesitate.  What an honor – how could I say “no”?  I figured it would be a lot like documenting the mission trips we go on, or even a wedding in some ways — just capture the moments.  Kayla was in labor for many hours and for 17 of those I was on hand to document everything.  What was so interesting for me was that she had the baby at a birthing center, by a midwife, with no drugs.  And she was a true champ.  I’ve never seen someone so focused and so calm despite the amount of pain she was in.  I put together a little slideshow of the experience for Kayla and, with her permission, am finally posting it.  Her beautiful daughter’s first images were taken just a week and 1/2 later in my studio and I’ve posted some faves.  I think little sweet Lorelei will always have a special place in my heart.  What a beautiful girl!!

WPPI Recap ~ Las Vegas

I recently attended WPPI’s annual trade show and convention in Vegas and what a whirlwind it was!  14,000 photographers took over the MGM Grand and it was great catching up with old friends and meeting new ones! I think if there was one key take-away from my time there, it would to be to stay true to myself , as an artist and business owner.  For me, that means not getting caught up in what other photographers are doing – to find my own voice and to nurture it and embrace it. To listen to my gut more and trust my instincts, all while seeking and dwelling on what God has planned for me.

I have to be honest, I really wasn’t looking forward to Vegas this year.  I find myself getting a bit discouraged by all the hype and fame-seeking I observe going on the industry and being in a place like Vegas only perpetuates that, in my opinion.  Although I didn’t participate in a lot of the parties and social activities, it was so worth going, just to catch up with some amazing women I’ve connected with over the past couple years.  I think the highlight of my trip (besides hearing Elizabeth Messina speak and the NAPCP dinner) was on the last morning that I was there, I drove out to the desert with  my three good friends - Jane Johnson, Erin Orias and Beth Daane – all beautiful women, amazing photographers and supportive friends that continue to inspire me and keep me humble.  We enjoyed just taking in God’s beauty, praying and snapping a few fun shots of each other.

Another highlight of my trip was having dinner with Alice Park who founded NAPCP as well as some members of the organization – these women are so amazing and it’s an honor to be a part of it!

Leigh is Expecting! {Dallas Fort Worth Maternity Photography}

I’ve recently had a surge in maternity shoots and it just warms my heart as most of these women were former brides of mine.  I’m so blessed to continue with them in their journey!  I photographed Leigh’s charming wedding last year and it was also featured on Southern Weddings Magazine blog. I’m so excited for her and her hubby as they await the arrival of their beautiful baby girl.  If you look closely, you’ll see a hint as to what her name will be.  :)   It was Leigh’s idea to incorporate the beautiful flower (hint hint) and I love it!!

Leigh, you are stunning.  Thank you for allowing me into your life again to capture your most precious memories.  I can’t wait to meet Gigi!

I absolutely love this series – what a fun lifestyle collage.  I couldn’t help posting the bump with the puppy bottom – the curves of both just made me happy. :)

Welcome Home Abby {Dallas Fort Worth Children’s Photographer}

God is so good!!!  So many have been praying (for over four years) for Abby and her mom, Becky, to come together.  It finally happened this past January just before Abby turned one year old.  Becky is an old family friend and it was truly an honor to photograph her precious baby from China.  I love photographing children and even more, I love photographing relationships.  Abby was simply a joy to be around.  She is so well-adjusted and in love with her mommy, not to mention gorgeous.

Becky, I’m overjoyed for you and Abby.  I hope I can continue capturing this journey you’re both on – Abby is destined to be a beautiful woman with a heart for God, just knowing her mommy is.  :) To read more about Abby and Becky’s story, you can go here: The Abby Adventure
